Tax Associate - State and Local Tax

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Tax Associate specializing in State and Local Tax (SALT) to join their team in Reston, VA. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex tax matters across various industries and jurisdictions, collaborating with a cross-office team.

Duties

• Support clients on corporate income and franchise tax matters.
• Advise on sales and use tax issues.
• Handle property tax and payroll tax concerns.
• Assist with personal income tax matters.
• Provide controversy, audit defense, and litigation support.
• Engage in tax planning, structuring, and transactional analysis.
• Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on multi-state tax projects.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of dedicated State and Local Tax experience.
• Experience with corporate income, franchise, sales, use, property, payroll, and/or individual income tax matters.
• Exposure to controversy or litigation is a plus.
• Experience with tax planning and restructuring preferred.
• Strong research, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across offices and disciplines.

Education

• JD degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admitted to practice in the state in which they are officing.
