Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Senior Associate Attorney in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This role involves working closely with the firm's owner, attorneys, and staff to support clients, particularly in the agricultural and business sectors, with a focus on bankruptcy and tax-related matters.

Duties

  • Maintain excellent communication with clients, advisors, opposing counsel, courts, and other interested parties.
  • Supervise and assist the firm's staff in evaluating clients' financial, tax, and legal positions.
  • Assist clients in setting realistic goals and designing strategies to achieve them.
  • Provide excellent legal services and represent clients in mediations, negotiations, depositions, and court proceedings.
  • Conduct new client meetings to present the firm's legal services.

Requirements

  • Experience in bankruptcy and debt restructuring.
  • Work history demonstrating increasing responsibility in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Experience with Chapter 11 or Chapter 12 plans and related activities.

Education

  • Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed in the state of Iowa or able to obtain licensure within a reasonable time.
  • Attorneys licensed in Illinois are encouraged to apply.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in Iowa or Illinois.

Skills

  • Expertise in bankruptcy and commercial law.
  • Familiarity with the agricultural industry.
  • Knowledge of income tax implications for distressed businesses.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to evaluate outcomes in bankruptcy scenarios and determine lien priorities.
