A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney for its St. Michael, MN location. The role involves defending workers' compensation claims and other civil litigation matters. Duties

  • Represent employers, insurers, and third-party administrators in workers' compensation claims before the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry and Court of Administrative Hearings.
  • Defend employment-related claims in state and federal court, including wrongful discharge and discrimination claims.
  • Handle general civil litigation, including personal injury defense.
  • Conduct research, investigation, and analysis of cases.
  • Prepare pleadings and complete discovery processes.
  • Analyze and summarize complex medical data.
  • Collaborate with expert witnesses to present testimony and evidence.
  • Prepare briefs and legal memoranda for motion, trial, and appellate practice.
  • Provide clear and concise reports to clients and leadership teams.
  • Appear before various courts and represent clients in alternative dispute resolution.
  • Engage in business development and support client relationships.

Requirements

  • Competence in analyzing and applying the Minnesota Worker's Compensation Act and Rules of Practice.
  • Experience with Minnesota and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Prior experience with motion practice, discovery disputes, and trial preparation.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasive skills.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota.
