Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly qualified career associate with 4-6 years of experience to join their Cyber, Privacy, and Data Innovation group in Seattle, Washington. This role offers an alternative to the partner track, allowing for substantive legal work with a lower annual time commitment. The position involves advising on privacy, cybersecurity, and AI compliance programs.

Duties

  • Advise clients on compliance with U.S. and international privacy, cybersecurity, and AI laws.
  • Support the development of global privacy, AI, and cybersecurity compliance programs.
  • Counsel on privacy, security, and AI due diligence in corporate transactions.
  • Draft and negotiate data processing agreements and related documentation.
  • Provide guidance on incident preparedness and data breach response.
  • Advise on cross-border data transfer mechanisms and strategies.
  • Counsel on AI governance and responsible AI innovation.
  • Provide product counseling across various technology industries.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of experience in privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and data protection matters.
  • Experience advising on major privacy and data protection frameworks.
  • Experience negotiating privacy and security terms in commercial contracts.
  • Familiarity with AI regulatory developments is preferred.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proactive communication and project management skills.
  • Strong academic credentials from a nationally recognized law school.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a global team.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for technology and emerging technologies.

Education

  • JD is required.

Certifications

  • CIPP/US, CIPT, CIPM, AIGP, or other IAPP certifications are a plus.
  • Admission to the state bar of the office location.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage directly with clients and lead significant projects.
