Job Overview
A law firm seeks a highly motivated Intellectual Property Associate with at least 2 years of experience in life sciences patenting to join their Miami, FL office. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated patent matters for a diverse client base, including Fortune 50 companies and innovative start-ups.

Duties

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the life sciences sector.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, infringement, validity, and patent landscape searches and analyses.
  • Advise clients on patent issues throughout the product lifecycle, including strategic consultation, portfolio management, and patent enforcement.
  • Collaborate with clients, colleagues, the USPTO, and foreign associates regarding domestic and international patent prosecution matters.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment that supports professional growth and client service excellence.

 

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience as a patent attorney in biotechnology.
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in biological sciences, e.g., molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, etc.
  • Superior academic credentials.
  • Experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications relating to biologics or other large-molecule technologies.
  • Experience in conducting searches and analyses for freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, infringement, validity, and patent landscape assessments.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO in good standing.
  • Admission to at least one State bar.
  • Prior law firm experience preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A collaborative approach, sound judgment, and a commitment to exceptional client service.

 

Education

  • Advanced degree in biological sciences (Ph.D. preferred).

 

Certifications

  • Registration to practice before the USPTO.
