Job Overview

A respected law firm in the Pacific Northwest is seeking a full-time Biotechnology and/or Pharmaceutical Patent Attorney to join its Intellectual Property practice group. This position supports clients in the life sciences sector by offering expert guidance in patent prosecution, portfolio strategy, and IP counseling. The role is suited for professionals with a strong academic background in the biosciences and at least two years of experience in patent prosecution. 

Location

  • Bend, OR

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors

  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and validity assessments

  • Advise clients on IP portfolio development and patent strategy

  • Prepare legal opinions regarding infringement and enforceability

  • Work closely with scientists, inventors, and in-house counsel

  • Manage patent matters independently while collaborating with team members

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in biotech/pharmaceutical patent prosecution

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects with limited supervision

  • Exceptional writing, organizational, and communication skills

  • Client-focused approach and strong work ethic

Education

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a life sciences field, such as:

    • Biology

    • Biochemistry

    • Immunology

    • Molecular and Cellular Biology

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • USPTO registration (required for all candidates)

  • Membership in the Oregon State Bar (or eligibility for reciprocity)

Skills

  • Strong legal writing and patent drafting capabilities

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear legal strategy

  • Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills

  • Excellent academic credentials and professional references
