Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Real Estate Tax Associate for its Homewood, IL office. The ideal candidate will have over two years of experience in property tax appeals with local assessor offices and boards. This full-time, in-office role requires a proactive individual eager to learn and excel in a dynamic environment.

Duties

  • Draft, file, and manage complaints and briefs for property tax appeals.
  • Analyze assessment records to develop appeal strategies.
  • Manage tax appeals for complex real estate projects.
  • Monitor filings and support document production for court cases.
  • Participate in economic development aspects of tax appeals.
  • Maintain appeal dockets and oversee tax incentive classifications.
  • Support tax proration matters and related projects.
  • Communicate with clients regarding appeal status and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with County representatives on hearings and settlements.
  • Prepare and maintain professional correspondence and documentation.
  • Participate in Continuing Legal Education trainings.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Illinois.
  • Experience in real estate, municipal development, or property tax appeals preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access is a plus.
  • Ability to compose clear and persuasive briefs and correspondence.
  • Exercise good judgment with confidential matters.
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills.
  • Professionalism and diplomacy in client interactions.
  • Ability to interpret complex assessment data.
