Job Overview

A law firm seeks a National Security and Global Trade Associate to join its practice in Chicago, IL. This role is ideal for a 3rd-4th year associate with experience in U.S. economic sanctions, export controls, CFIUS, and national security issues in corporate and financial transactions. The successful candidate will collaborate with lawyers across various teams on complex, cross-border matters for multinational clients.

Duties

  • Advise clients on U.S. economic sanctions, including compliance counseling and risk assessments.
  • Counsel on export controls under the Export Administration Regulations and International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
  • Support CFIUS and national security reviews, including transaction structuring and preparation of filings.
  • Conduct diligence in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.
  • Draft and review compliance policies and contractual provisions related to trade and national security risks.
  • Assist with internal investigations and responses to government inquiries.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on multidisciplinary matters.

Requirements

  • 3-4 years of relevant experience in international trade, sanctions, export controls, CFIUS, or national security matters.
  • Experience supporting transactions involving trade or national security considerations.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
  • Admission to practice (or eligibility for admission) in the relevant jurisdiction.

Education

  • JD from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.

Certifications

  • Admitted to practice in the jurisdiction in which you are applying.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and good business judgment.
