Patent Agent

Job Overview:
A global law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property Practice Group in Austin. This role involves supporting clients with patent portfolio development, prosecution, and strategic IP counseling across a variety of technology sectors.

Duties:

• Draft patent applications, particularly in computer and software-related technologies
• Prosecute patent applications before the USPTO
• Assist in developing and managing patent portfolios
• Advise clients on intellectual property strategies
• Collaborate with attorneys and clients on complex IP matters

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience
• Experience drafting patent applications in areas such as software, AI/ML, fintech, telecommunications, or related technologies
• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Strong academic credentials
• Ability to work directly with clients and manage multiple matters

Education and Certifications:

• Degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related technical field preferred
• Candidates with mechanical engineering or other relevant experience may also be considered
