Job Overview

A law firm seeks a detail-oriented estate planning attorney with 1-3 years of relevant experience to join its Madison, WI office as a Special Counsel. This full-time position involves supporting the Estate Planning Practice Group in providing sophisticated estate planning, trust administration, and wealth management counsel to individuals, businesses, and charitable organizations.

Duties

  • Draft complex estate plan and business succession planning documents for high-net-worth individuals.
  • Prepare complex charitable giving documents.
  • Counsel clients on income, gift, estate, and generation-skipping tax planning.
  • Assist with probate proceedings for taxable and nontaxable estates.
  • Process Federal gift and estate tax returns.
  • Engage in tax-exempt organization planning.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of relevant estate planning experience.
  • Excellent drafting, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple matters.
  • Strong client service skills and ability to collaborate with professionals.

Education

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active admission and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Admission to the Wisconsin Bar required on a timely basis.

Skills

  • Solid foundation in estate planning, including estate, trust, and tax law.
  • Knowledge of fiduciary and gift tax concepts.
