Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent to join its intellectual property team in Herndon, Virginia. The firm offers a hybrid work environment that balances flexibility with opportunities for professional development and collaboration.

Duties

  • Prepare, draft, and prosecute U.S. patent applications.
  • Review and revise foreign patent applications filed in the United States.
  • Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions and conduct examiner interviews.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, inventors, and clients throughout the patent prosecution process.
  • Manage multiple matters while maintaining accurate time records.

Requirements

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 1 - 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience with semiconductors and/or wireless communication technologies is a plus.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical discipline.

Certifications

  • Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
