Job Overview:
A respected Michigan-based criminal defense law firm is seeking an experienced and dedicated Trial Attorney to join its team. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to manage a broad caseload, from misdemeanors to felonies, with the full support of a collaborative legal team. Location:

  • Kalamazoo, MI

Duties:

  • Independently manage a caseload involving a range of criminal defense matters

  • Handle cases from initial client intake through resolution or trial

  • Participate in weekly strategy sessions with senior attorneys to assess case progress and explore solutions

  • Communicate regularly with clients, legal assistants, and team members

  • Assist with Specialty Court cases as needed

  • Maintain compliance with continuing legal education (CLE) requirements

  • Provide oversight to support staff and collaborate effectively with the legal team

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience preferred in criminal defense or related litigation

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan

  • Strong oral advocacy and legal writing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to handle a courtroom with confidence and professionalism

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Willingness to travel throughout assigned jurisdictions

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Michigan
