Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent in Madison, WI, or Washington, DC, with three or more years of experience. The role involves preparing and prosecuting patent applications within the Technology, Manufacturing, and Transportation sectors.

Duties

  • Prosecute patent applications, including responding to Office actions and communicating with Patent Examiners.
  • Draft high-quality patent applications with detailed descriptions and figures.
  • Conduct and analyze comprehensive patent searches to identify prior art.
  • Stay updated on developments in U.S. patent law and relevant technologies.
  • Meet a billable hour requirement of 1500 - 1700 hours per year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in a law firm environment.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
  • Registered as a Patent Agent before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Experience in Artificial Intelligence or Quantum Computing is a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Certifications

  • Registered Patent Agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
