Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Estate Planning Attorney in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in estate planning and probate administration, working directly with high-net-worth clients and family offices. This role involves immediate responsibility for client relationships, drafting, and matter management, supported by experienced partners and staff.

Duties

  • Counsel clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer planning.
  • Draft wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related instruments.
  • Advise on asset titling and coordinated planning across various accounts.
  • Manage probate and trust administrations, including court filings and asset management.
  • Advise fiduciaries on duties and risk management.
  • Support business-succession planning in collaboration with other teams.
  • Coordinate with clients' external advisors on tax compliance.
  • Conduct legal research and maintain organized matter files.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois or eligible for timely admission.
  • Minimum of 5 years of focused trusts-and-estates experience.
  • Strong drafting skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of federal transfer-tax principles and Illinois probate practice.
  • Excellent organization, judgment, and client-service skills.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois.

Skills

  • Strong drafting and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage matters independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with practice-management systems and document-automation tools.
