Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Attorney to join its appraisal litigation practice group in Houston, TX. This full-time, on-site position offers the opportunity to manage a personal docket, engage with clients, and participate in all stages of litigation, from legal research to trial preparation.

Duties

  • Conduct initial file review and evaluate petitions of assigned cases.
  • Draft legal documents, including briefs, motions, pleadings, and appeals.
  • Investigate case facts to determine causes of action and prepare cases accordingly.
  • Resolve cases through settlement or trial/appeal.
  • Make court appearances before Texas District Courts.
  • Participate in marketing and networking activities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence.
  • Experience with mock trials.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of legal principles, practices, and proceedings.
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws, regulations, and rules.
  • Self-motivated with good communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with Prolaw case management software is a plus.

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas.
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.

Skills

  • Legal competency and expertise in Texas civil procedure.
  • 0-2 years of legal experience at a law firm or governmental agency.
  • Litigation and trial experience preferred.
