Job Overview

A respected law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney for its Richmond office with 3 to 5 years of experience in workers’ compensation and general liability litigation. The ideal candidate will be experienced in handling all phases of litigation, including depositions, pretrial motions, expert coordination, and trial preparation. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced legal environment, focusing on property casualty/coverage and workers’ compensation defense work.

Duties

• Represent clients in workers’ compensation and general civil liability matters

• Manage all phases of litigation including:

  • Pretrial motions

  • Depositions

  • Discovery

  • Coordination with expert witnesses

  • Trial and hearing preparation

• Draft pleadings, legal memoranda, and settlement documents

• Attend court hearings and negotiate resolutions

• Provide counsel on coverage disputes and casualty claims

• Maintain strong client communication throughout the case lifecycle

Requirements

• 3–5 years of relevant litigation experience, with a concentration in workers’ compensation and property casualty/coverage matters

• Familiarity with both state and federal court procedures

• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision

• Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines and handle complex legal issues

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

• Active Virginia State Bar license required

• Additional bar admissions and/or judicial clerkship or prosecutorial experience are a plus

Skills

• Strong legal research and analytical skills

• Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy abilities

• Ability to manage depositions, discovery, and trial preparation independently

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Proficient in legal software and Microsoft Office applications

• Effective communication with clients, courts, and opposing counsel
