Job Overview

A law firm seeks a National Security and Global Trade Associate to join its practice in Baltimore, MD, with a preference for Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will have experience advising on U.S. economic sanctions, export controls, CFIUS, and national security issues in corporate and financial transactions.

Duties

  • Advise clients on U.S. economic sanctions, including compliance counseling and risk assessments.
  • Counsel on export controls under EAR and ITAR.
  • Support CFIUS and national security reviews, including transaction structuring and coordination with U.S. government agencies.
  • Conduct diligence in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.
  • Draft and review compliance policies and contractual provisions related to trade and national security risks.
  • Assist with internal investigations and responses to government inquiries.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on multidisciplinary matters.

Requirements

  • 3-4 years of relevant experience in international trade, sanctions, export controls, CFIUS, or national security matters.
  • Experience supporting transactions involving trade or national security considerations.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
  • Admission to practice (or eligibility for admission) in the relevant jurisdiction.

Education

  • JD from an accredited law school, with strong academic credentials.

Certifications

  • Admitted to practice in the jurisdiction in which you are applying.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and good business judgment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
