The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of construction contracts and various types of construction claims. They should be adept at drafting and negotiating standard form contracts and custom contracts, handling issues related to payment terms, limitations of liability, warranties, termination, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

Duties:

  • Utilize expertise in construction law to handle a wide range of construction claims, including delays, inefficiencies, defects, warranties, design, liens, and bonds.
  • Engage in trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings, taking lead responsibilities.
  • Argue motions and conduct depositions, including expert depositions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in research and writing, producing high-quality legal documents.
  • Manage files, supervise client contact, and lead commercial cases effectively.
  • Juggle multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining responsiveness and attention to detail.
  • Provide outstanding client service and foster strong client relationships.

Requirements:

  • 8-15 years of substantial experience in construction law.
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts and claims.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating standard form contracts (e.g., AIA, Consensus Docs) and custom contracts.
  • Familiarity with payment terms, limitations of liability, warranties, termination, and ADR.
  • Extensive experience in handling various construction claims, including delays, defects, design issues, liens, and bonds.
  • Proven track record in trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings, with lead responsibilities.
  • Admission to the Michigan Bar.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Michigan Bar.
