Job Overview

A law firm seeks a senior-level regulatory attorney with five or more years of experience to join its Energy Development Practice Group in Portland, OR. The role involves advising clients on regulatory frameworks and strategies related to energy and environmental mandates.

Duties

  • Advise clients on federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks for energy infrastructure.
  • Prepare and oversee regulatory filings, including rate cases and rulemakings.
  • Lead administrative proceedings before state regulatory agencies.
  • Draft and negotiate agreements related to project development and regulatory approvals.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex matters.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to client development and industry engagement.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in energy regulatory law or related practice.
  • Strong understanding of energy policy and emerging regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience advising energy companies or infrastructure clients on regulatory strategy.
  • Significant experience with regulatory proceedings before state utility commissions or FERC.
  • Background in in-house regulatory leadership or government agency experience is beneficial.
  • Excellent writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex matters and work collaboratively across teams.

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.

Certifications

  • Active bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction or ability to obtain admission by waiver.
