Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Biotechnology Patent Prosecution Associate to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with a Ph.D. in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines. The position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile biotechnology patent matters, handling patent prosecution work for top clients in the biotechnology sector. The role requires at least 2 years of experience in biotechnology patent prosecution, as well as a commitment to excellence in the legal field.

Location:

  • Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

  • Manage biotechnology patent prosecution matters
  • Draft and file patent applications and responses to office actions
  • Work with inventors and clients to ensure effective protection of intellectual property
  • Conduct patentability, validity, and infringement analyses
  • Advise clients on biotechnology patent strategy and portfolio management
  • Participate in client meetings and communication regarding patent matters
  • Collaborate with legal teams and support staff to meet client needs

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in biotechnology patent prosecution
  • Ph.D. in biology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or a related field
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle complex legal and technical issues
  • Strong client-facing abilities and interpersonal skills

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • U.S. bar membership
  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills:

  • Expertise in biotechnology patent law and intellectual property issues
  • Strong legal writing and analytical abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in patent prosecution and related legal matters
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
