Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent or Technical Specialist to join its Intellectual Property practice in Houston, Texas. The ideal candidate will have a background in Engineering, Math, or Physics, with at least three years of experience, preferably in patent prosecution within the Oil and Gas industry.

Duties

  • Draft patent applications and prosecute them before the USPTO.
  • Analyze scientific or technical documents to assess inventions or issued patents.
  • Draft detailed descriptions of inventions in precise legal terms.
  • Prepare information disclosure statements and other related materials.
  • Manage a U.S. and foreign patent prosecution docket to meet deadlines.
  • Conduct interviews with USPTO examiners.
  • Stay updated on legal developments in intellectual property.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or related field.
  • Admission to practice before the USPTO for Patent Agent candidates.
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry or similar sectors preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong academic credentials and excellent communication skills.
