Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Tribal Law Attorney to join their Sacramento, CA office. The attorney will represent Indian tribal governments and their entities in various legal matters, including land acquisition, gaming, and internal governance. Candidates with five or more years of gaming or finance experience may have the option to work hybrid or remotely.

Duties

  • Provide counsel and legal services to clients while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Travel to off-site meetings with clients as needed, including evenings and weekends.
  • Apply knowledge of business issues and legal procedures to counsel clients effectively.
  • Communicate with opposing counsel to expedite case closures.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare necessary legal documents.
  • Appear at meetings, consultations, and hearings as needed.
  • Draft tribal legislation, codes, and agreements.
  • Analyze and review legal documents.
  • Interface with clients continuously.
  • Comply with court and state bar licensure obligations.
  • Participate in panels at conferences and seminars.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Understanding of federal Indian law principles and tribal sovereignty.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using law firm technology.
  • Project management ability.
  • Well-developed presentation skills.
  • Ability to record time daily and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Timeslips software.

Education

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited university.

Certifications

  • California State Bar license required.

Skills

  • Driver's license.
  • Writing sample.
  • Federal Indian law program certificate or equivalent experience.
