Job Overview:
A leading global law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property & Technology practice in Phoenix. This role focuses on patent preparation and prosecution for a diverse range of technologies and offers the opportunity to work closely with clients, attorneys, and technical professionals on sophisticated intellectual property matters.

Duties:

  • Work directly with clients to identify and develop patentable inventions
  • Advise clients regarding invention disclosures, patent portfolio strategy, and prosecution matters
  • Evaluate emerging and complex technologies across various industries
  • Draft and prosecute U.S. patent applications
  • Coordinate and support the prosecution of international patent applications
  • Assist with intellectual property opinions and related advisory work
  • Provide client counseling on patent and technology-related matters
  • Support intellectual property litigation and enforcement efforts when needed
  • Deliver technical analysis and support for matters across the intellectual property practice

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of patent agent experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
  • Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications independently
  • Ability to work across a broad range of technologies and adapt to new subject matter
  • Experience with software-related inventions and patent matters is a plus
  • Strong client service orientation and ability to manage responsibilities independently
  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office is required

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Registered Patent Agent before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
