In April 2005, Atsumi & Sakai became the first Japanese law firm to create a foreign law joint venture, which permits us to admit as partners attorneys admitted in jurisdictions other than Japan, bringing real international expertise and capabilities to the firm. In addition to lawyers admitted in Japan (including Japanese lawyers also admitted in England and Wales and the Republic of the Marshall Islands), our firm includes foreign lawyers registered in Japan to advise on the laws of the US States of New York and California, the People's Republic of China, Taiwan, India, and the State of Queensland, Australia.
This enables us to provide comprehensive, highly sophisticated drafting, research and other legal services seamlessly across multiple jurisdictions.

In January 2015 Atsumi & Sakai became the only independent Japanese law firm with an office in the EMEA region with the opening of a branch office in London (Atsumi & Sakai Europe Limited ("A&S Europe")). A&S Europe will enable Atsumi & Sakai to provide real-time advice on Japanese law, and the laws of certain other jurisdictions as mentioned above, to its clients in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as providing a more convenient service to its clients in the Americas. A&S Europe will advise on all aspects of Japanese law, with a particular focus on banking & finance, M&A, capital markets, securities regulation, data protection and funds, and will be able to call on a dedicated Europe Team at Atsumi & Sakai, Tokyo for support as needed.
