Litigation
Innovating to Protect Our Clients' Interests

When we walk up the courthouse steps, we are prepared to win. We have experience managing multi-jurisdictional and parallel proceedings presenting not only legal and financial exposure risks, but also potential reputational damage and loss of customers as well. We have tried and won "bet-the-company" litigation, and amassed decades of experience defending and prosecuting commercial litigation throughout the United States.

Our experience brings a competitive edge in analyzing claims, understanding our client's business and the issues at hand, sizing up the opposition, devising strategies, managing risk, determining exposure and resolving disputes up to and including trial.
White Collar
Defending Clients on All Fronts

We have represented companies, executives and government officials in federal and state criminal matters as well as in investigations by Congressional Committees and other federal government enforcement agencies, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Federal Election Commission, various Inspectors General, and the Office of Special Counsel. We are often able to convince criminal investigators not to pursue charges, and when we have to go to trial, we are prepared to win. Representative matters include convincing the Department of Justice to decline all charges against Paula Broadwell for alleged cyberstalking and allegedly receiving classified information from General David Petraeus, representing Senator Bob Packwood in two separate grand jury investigations that both resulted in no charges, working with co-counsel to overturn an ITAR conviction in the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, and representing hospital and pharmaceutical executives in various grand jury investigations resulting in no charges.

We have also conducted internal investigations on behalf of clients concerned about violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the UK Anti-Bribery Act, the False Claims Act, healthcare fraud statutes, campaign finance laws, and export control laws. Among others, our internal investigations have included scrutinizing, on behalf of the Government of Rwanda, the role of French officials in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and examining, on behalf of the Major League Baseball Players Association, the responsibility of certain sports agents in the Biogensis drug scandal.
Congressional Investigations
Managing High-Stakes Risk In The Political And Media Spotlight

Few have represented as many congressional investigations targets and witnesses as have the lawyers at this firm. Our lawyers have represented clients in the Watergate, Benghazi, Enron, Fast and Furious, Iran Contra, Solyndra, Filegate, Anita Hill, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2016 Election investigations, as well as many others. Relatedly, our lawyers served as counsel to victims' families during the "Bloody Sunday" inquiry in Northern Ireland and investigated, on behalf of the Government of Rwanda, the role of French officials in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. These inherently political inquiries create unique legal and reputational risks, even to clients only called as witnesses. Our job is to keep the legal interests of our clients in focus, while navigating the political and media storms that can attach to these inquiries.
Healthcare Fraud
Navigating Complex Fraud, Regulatory And Privacy Issues

We have represented healthcare companies under investigation by U.S. Attorneys Offices, the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, FDA and state agencies. Healthcare fraud cases frequently include criminal, civil and administrative proceedings, which our attorneys effectively ? and often simultaneously ? handle. We have represented clients in dozens of matters regarding allegations in the hospital, pharmaceutical and medical supply sectors of the economy.

We have advised physicians and large healthcare institutions on cyber security and data privacy issues, including HIPAA compliance. We have managed and controlled the parallel prosecutions that can often evolve from an initial administrative hearing or small-scale investigation, to encompass criminal and civil litigation as well as reputational and international coordination issues.
Whistleblowers
Exposing fraud and protecting the people who speak the truth

Levy Firestone Muse's attorneys have represented whistleblowers for decades in False Claims Act cases and in high-profile, politically sensitive matters. Our attorneys have won millions of dollars for clients and exposed fraud in government and the private sector while navigating the dangers of taking on powerful interests, including threats to anonymity, reputation, and employment. Among the high-profile whistleblowers our attorneys have represented or co-represented are Dinesh Thakur, who exposed the largest fraud in the history of the generic drug industry forcing a settlement for hundreds of millions of dollars; Cynthia Cooper, the whistleblower who exposed financial fraud at WorldCom and became Time Magazine's Person of the Year; and Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch of Fusion GPS, who helped inform the Department of Justice about Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.
Personal Injury/Medical Malpractice
Shepherding clients through the most difficult times in their lives

Levy Firestone Muse has secured millions of dollars in settlements for our clients in serious personal injury and medical malpractice cases, including wrongful death, neurosurgery malpractice, and accidents resulting in brain injuries and complex pain syndrome. We also represent victims of sexual assault. Our lawyers are seasoned trial attorneys. Defense attorneys know that we will take a case to trial and win.
