Ms. Marx represents clients in family law litigation and in collaborative divorce. She provides consultation services to clients both for planning marriage and domestic partnerships and for dissolving them. Ms. Marx acts as a neutral private mediator in family law cases. Her practice includes all aspects of family law, including divorce, legal separation, domestic partnerships, parentage actions, child custody, child and spousal support, property division, and premarital and post-marital agreements. Of particular focus are dissolution cases involving family-owned businesses, intellectual property, tracing of community and separate property, and complex deferred compensation and support issues.

When clients' cases can be settled, Ms. Marx is eager to contribute creative solutions that enhance the outcome. When settlement is not possible, Ms. Marx uses her extensive litigation experience to vigorously advocate for her clients' interests. Ms. Marx and her staff treat each client as the unique person that they are. Family break-ups are a time of enormous transition, financially, emotionally, and socially. Ms. Marx supports each client as they move through this challenging process.

Ms. Marx started her private practice in 1998. Prior to that she was the Director of the Community Law Center, a non-profit law office handling family law and probate matters for low income families. She joined the Community Law Center as a staff attorney in 1983. Prior to that she practiced in a small, general practice law firm in San Jose.

Ms. Marx graduated with a J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley, in 1981 and was admitted to the California State Bar and to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in 1981. She received her B.A. magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Rochester in New York, where she majored in psychology, with a focus in child development.
