Madigan & Lewis, LLP is dedicated to the practice of family law and serves clients living in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. Our office is located at 411 Borel Avenue, Suite 600, San Mateo, CA, between the El Camino Real and Alameda de las Pulgas exits off the 92 freeway.

Our firm serves a broad variety of individuals. Our clients have included business owners and executives, salaried employees, scientists, musicians, engineers, physicians, and lawyers. In custody disputes, we represent both mothers and fathers, working parents and non-working parents, and consult with mental health professionals when appropriate to support our clients through the process and help them develop a parenting plan that is in the best interests of their children.

Both partners are active in the family law legal community. Kimberly Madigan was the 2015 Chair of the Family Law Section of the San Mateo County Bar Association. Ms. Madigan is also an active member of the San Mateo County Collaborative Practice Group (CPSMC). Victoria Lewis was the 2016 Chair of the Family Law Section of the San Mateo County Bar Association. As a former Research Attorney for the Family Division of the Santa Clara Superior Court, Ms. Lewis volunteers with the Family Divisions of both the San Mateo and Santa Clara County Superior Courts.

Strategic

At the outset of your case, we will assess which dispute-resolution vehicle is the most suitable for your case, whether it be an attorney-assisted negotiation and settlement, private mediation, collaborative divorce, litigation in public court or with a private judge.

We will work closely with you to develop a case strategy that takes into consideration the following variables: the issues at hand; the needs of your children, if applicable; the dynamics between you and your spouse; opposing counsel; the judicial officer assigned to your case; and, the size of your marital estate. Our primary objective is to bring your case to a final resolution in a way that preserves your financial assets and family relationships. In complex cases, we work with forensic accountants and tax and/or business attorneys to assist with issues such as the division of complex business interests, business valuations, the creation of tax-advantaged support and property settlements, the apportionment of real estate interests, and the division of RSU's and stock options.

We recognize that divorce and custody-related matters are some of the most difficult and stressful life experiences our clients will face.

It is therefore of the highest importance to us that our clients feel empowered through this process, are kept apprised of case progress, and are part of and comfortable with the solution. Telephone calls and emails are almost always returned the same day, if not sooner. Our level of service gives clients the comfort of knowing they can stay focused on their children and work priorities.

Again, our primary goal is to transition our clients to the next phase of their lives without getting mired in costly, combative, and unnecessary legal battles.

We do not litigate for the sake of litigating and help our clients stay focused on the finish line. We also encourage our clients to conduct a cost-benefit analysis before making important case decisions.
