He spent his early years traveling to several military bases including Clark Air Base the Philippines and finally ending at Eglin Air Force Base Florida, where his father retired in 1970. After retirement the Haiman family moved back to the El Paso area where they took over a family business and Fred went to school from 2nd grade through graduation from Eastwood High School in 1982. His focus through high school was playing the trumpet in the marching, symphonic and jazz bands. After High School Fred went off to college where he started his collegiate career competing in Collegiate Rodeo, riding Bareback Bronc and finishing his college playing Rugby for Southwest Texas State University, where he was selected to the Texas Select Team his senior year, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, with honors in 1986 (quite an accomplishment for those of you who know any Rugby players).
