Mike Speakman was raised in Auburn, Alabama and graduated from Auburn High School in 1980 and Auburn University in 1984. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 1987. Upon graduation from law school, Mike served as a Judge Advocate General in the United States Air Force where he gained experience as a prosecutor and defense attorney. From 1988 to 1990, while serving on active duty, he was a Special Assistant United States Attorney as well as an Adjunct Professor at Troy State University teaching Constitutional Law and Criminal Procedure. In 1992, Mike was honorably discharged from the Air Force at the rank of Captain and began practicing law in East Alabama. Mike was the 1998 Republican nominee for Lee County District Attorney and has currently served as the Camp Hill Municipal Judge in Tallapoosa County since 2003. Since 2020, Mike has been an adjunct professor at Point University in West Point, Georgia, where he enjoys teaching Business Law. Mike has been married to his beautiful bride Susan since 1990, and they have two children, Lauren and Landon. Mike enjoys hiking, kayaking, water skiing, traveling, sporting events, being involved at his church (Lakeview Baptist Church) and spending time with his family.
