In more recent years, and in keeping with the theme of representing the "underdog", I have accepted the challenge of representing victims of so-called "SLAPP Lawsuits" (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation), in defense of citizens' rights to freedom of speech as protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. Bloggers and consumer advocates are increasingly being targeted by SLAPP lawsuits designed to intimidate them into silence. There are defenses to these lawsuits, and, in some circumstances, it may even be possible to turn the tide and obtain compensation for having been unlawfully targeted by a SLAPP suit.
