For the past fifteen years, Mark Simpson has represented whistleblowers nationwide in qui tam lawsuits under the federal False Claims Act and similar state statutes. His cases have resulted in the recovery of millions of dollars for the U.S. taxpayers and for his clients. These cases run the gamut of government fraud -- including healthcare fraud, defense contractor fraud, pharmaceutical fraud, grant fraud, and other types of government fraud. Frequently, these cases also involve claims that the plaintiff was unlawfully fired or otherwise retaliated against by his or her employer for investigating and reporting the fraud.
In addition to representing clients at the trial level, Mr. Simpson has substantial appellate experience, frequently involving issues that are on the cutting edge of False Claims Act practice. Mr. Simpson currently represents whistleblowers in numerous sealed and unsealed cases throughout the United States. He is one of a small number of attorneys in the southeast whose practice focuses on the False Claims Act, and is a member of the national Taxpayers Against Fraud network of qui tam attorneys.
Practice Areas Include:
Medicare and Medicaid fraud
Defense contract fraud
Research grant fraud
FEMA fraud
Securities fraud
Stark Law violations
Anti-Kickback Statute violations
G. Mark Simpson received his undergraduate degree in History from the University of Georgia in 1987 (with an exquisite sense of timing, he managed to just miss all of the Herschel Walker years). In 1992, he graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as articles editor for the Georgia Law Review. In 2000, he received an M.B.A. in Finance from Georgia State University.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Simpson spent several years in private practice in Atlanta, representing individuals and businesses in civil litigation, as well as representing large creditors in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and workouts. Since 2001, he has focused his practice on the representation of qui tam whistleblowers.
