About Epperson & Owens
Epperson & Owens traces its roots to June 1, 1895, when brothers Samuel W. Stewart and Charles B. Stewart founded the Stewart & Stewart law firm in the first Utah "skyscraper" located on the corner of Main Street and First South in downtown Salt Lake City. The firm of Epperson & Owens, P.C. continues to occupy the fifth floor of the same building where the firm originated. David H. Epperson is a great grandson of Charles B. Stewart.
Through the succeeding years, the law firm of Stewart & Stewart prospered. Although the name of their law firm changed, the practice of law in the Stewart family continued.
The firm's office building, constructed of local Kyune sandstone and brick, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It preserves the original stone, brick, and quarter sawn oak trim. Many of its original architectural elements have been painstakingly restored, helping to return the floor to its former beauty. Also preserved are the original Stewart law books, oak stack book cases, and early firm photographs.
