During the 1970s, our personal injury lawyers established themselves as pioneers in asbestos litigation, representing victims of mesothelioma and the debilitating pulmonary diseases that asbestos exposure can cause. Our earliest asbestos cases involved exposures at the Boston Naval and Bethlehem Steel Shipyards, after which we began to represent workers from shipyards across the country, as well as pipecoverers, pipefitters, boilermakers, plumbers, electricians, sheetmetal workers, carpenters, and other tradesmen from a variety of land-based worksites, including construction sites, power plants and factories.
All the while, we have provided peerless representation to victims of a wide range of catastrophic accidents, handling numerous motor vehicle accidents, brain and spinal cord injuries, defective pharmaceutical cases, children's injuries, medical malpractice claims, workers' compensation injuries, construction site accidents, slip and fall accidents, dog bite cases, premises liability, and other personal injury cases. Each case is handled in a strategic and diligent manner with a deep understanding of our clients' injuries and how their disability profoundly affects their lives. As part of our representation, we seek to recover all applicable damages for our clients including loss of income, physical pain and suffering and disability, emotional distress, scarring disfigurement, permanent functional impairment, loss of vocation, medical bills, and more.
Each personal injury lawyer at our Malden law practice takes pride in keeping our clients fully advised of their legal options and rights, guiding them with a sure hand toward the compensation to which they are entitled. In doing so, we have amassed an impressive record of settlements and jury awards while participating in a number of notable and even historic cases. One of the proudest moments in our firm's history occurred in 1993, when Rodman, Rodman & Sandman, P.C., joined 50 other law firms throughout the nation to take action against the tobacco companies, who had for years managed to avoid taking responsibility for the millions of deaths their products had caused. By 1998, these tobacco companies had agreed to pay more than $200 billion to states nationwide and to stop marketing their deadly products to children. In 2003, in another historic case, Rodman, Rodman & Sandman, P.C., joined forces with firms in Dallas and New York City to bring to justice large oil refiners that had contaminated public water supplies with the gasoline additive Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE). This case was settled for over $450 million, more than $90 million of which went to 80 public water providers in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Currently, Rodman, Rodman & Sandman is engaged in the representation of over 100 cities and towns in Massachusetts in the National Prescription Opiate Litigation centralized in Ohio.
