He represents the Port of Portland in natural resource matters, and has also represented a variety of companies and individuals. He has worked individually and has collaborated with other lawyers to provide the right representation for his clients.

John has deep experience in complex litigation. He has won trial verdicts in cases ranging from murder to antitrust. In 2009, John was chosen by the Oregon Attorney General to lead the Oregon Department of Justice's Special Litigation Unit, where he served for five years under two different Oregon Attorneys General, John Kroger and Ellen Rosenblum.
As the Attorney-in-Charge, John led a trial team that defended a variety of high-profile cases, including constitutional challenges, tort claims, election cases, complex regulatory matters and environmental litigation.
