Marcus H. Herbert graduated from the University of Illinois in 1987. He went on to graduate from the SIU School of Law with a JD in 1992. While studying at SIU in 1990, he was a summer law clerk at the Moses & Singer law firm in New York, NY, and from 1990 to 1991 a law clerk for Judge Kenneth Meyers - Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Illinois.
In 1991 he joined the Law firm of Terry Sharp, P.C. and practiced mostly in commercial law, representing banks and trustees in bankruptcy. In 1995, Marcus started his practice, which involved debtor bankruptcy work, bank counsel, divorce, abuse and neglect of minors, and appellate work. In 1996 he founded the Bankruptcy Clinic in Carbondale, IL, and opened a second branch in Paducah, KY in 1999. The Paducah office changed its name to Marcus H. Herbert & Associates in 2008. In 2008, Marcus Herbert formed the law firm of Lathram and Herbert in Collinsville, IL, which focused on debtor bankruptcy. In 2009, he founded Bankruptcy Advocates in Carbondale, IL with Darrell Dunham, which also focuses on debtor bankruptcy.
Marcus Herbert was admitted to the bar in the states of Illinois and Indiana in 1992 and the bar in the commonwealth of Kentucky in 1999. He is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, BASIL, NACBA, and a member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau.
