Edward has dedicated the majority of his adult life to public service. At age 19 he volunteered as a firefighter in his hometown in New Jersey. Later, Edward volunteered as a firefighter in Somerset, New Jersey while attending Rutgers University where he obtained his Bachelor's of Arts in Criminal Justice. ​After graduation, Edward continued his public service in the fire department, earning the rank of Lieutenant of the truck company, where he was responsible for training other fire fighters and providing incident command at emergency scenes. In addition, he served as an Emergency Medical Technician for Raritan Bay Medical Center providing emergency medical services for the city of Perth Amboy, New Jersey.​
