Criminal Defense and Appeals
association lawyers defend clients in all aspects of the criminal spectrum, including complex white-collar cases, homicide, sex and narcotics violations. The association has handled criminal cases throughout the nation, and the practice encompasses pre-indictment investigations, post-indictment including jury trials through appeal and post-conviction matters.
The criminal defense lawyers at Nicholas & Barrera appreciate the importance of defending the rights of the accused, and use all available means to ensure that clients receive outstanding legal representation and access to justice. While the association knows Texas criminal law and procedure through many years of practice, the association also understands that communication is sometimes half the battle when representing clients accused of crimes. Clients need to know where they stand at all times, so that they can properly consider all of their options and make good decisions.
The association was the first in San Antonio to have a criminal trial broadcast live on the Court TV Cable Channel and cases they have handled have previewed on television shows such as 60 Minutes, Hard Copy, 20-20 and America's Most Wanted..
The association's criminal defense lawyers have extensive experience handling a wide variety of state and federal criminal charges and criminal appeals in Texas as well as in other states. Regardless of the type of case, every one of their clients receives personal care and attention along with vigorous and experienced advocacy.
The association's track record of successes is evidence of their experience and skill litigation. The association has successfully represented individuals and businesses in a wide array of legal actions. Court proceedings are governed by specialized rules of civil procedure and evidence, the application of which may be just as essential to a person's success as the applicable statute, regulation or precedent. The association's lawyers believe that, in most cases, a lawsuit should be commenced only after the parties have attempted to resolve their differences among themselves. A negotiated settlement is usually superior to a resolution imposed upon the parties by a judge or jury who, even in the best presented cases, cannot have as clear an appreciation of the issues as the parties. Furthermore, because it is governed by rules of evidence, procedure and court imposed deadlines, litigation can be a costly endeavor, both financially, in terms of money and time, and emotions. But, make no mistake, when representation requires litigation or trial, the team at Nicholas & Barrera are experienced trial lawyers, who are not afraid to fight to protect their clients' rights. The association has the expertise, knowledge, skills and resources to fully develop a complex civil case and go all the way to verdict.
