Salaries at Freshfields are based on a set lockstep system and first-year associates earn salaries starting at $160,000 per year. A pay freeze was initiated in its non-US offices in 2009 by the firm which was soon lifted in February 2010. There are tiers of associate compensation based on performance and bonus amounts are said to match the market too. Spring bonuses were announced in 2011 making Freshfields one of the first firms to pay spring bonuses outside the Vault's top 15 firms. Freshfields Bruckhaus's profits per equity partner were $1,108,000 in recent figures, placing the firm in the 78th percentile.
