Hopping Green & Sams

About Hopping Green & Sams:

We are three floors of governmental lawyers, three blocks from the capitol building of the Nation's third most populous state. From our single office in Tallahassee, we serve clients throughout the Southeast ? from the Statehouse to the White House, and from County Court to the U.S. Supreme Court. Our clients include the local entrepreneur hoping to start a business, the Fortune 500 company wanting to do business in Florida, and the local government hoping to navigate the state and federal regulatory maze. We began as the Tallahassee office of Mahoney Hadlow Chambers & Adams, Florida's first statewide law firm and then its oldest law firm. Of this we remain proud. It is from the Mahoney Hadlow firm that we inherited a respect for the law, an enduring commitment to our obligations as officers of the court, and dedication to our community. In 1979, the four founders who gave their names to our firm at its inception ? Wade Hopping, Bill Boyd, Bill Green, and Gary Sams ? decided to create a more collaborative and collegial law firm, one where all of the firm's lawyers would be under the same roof, where all the firm's members would have an equal say in the firm's business and professional decisions, and where compensation would be determined not on the number of hours billed or new work generated but rather by the outcomes collectively achieved by the firm for the firm's clients. They believed that, in a complex and changing world, such a firm could best provide government-related legal services to the client, without the complications from a law firm's internal dynamics that sometimes can get in the way. Our founders expected a relatively small, tightly knit, well-trained, and creative group of lawyers to relentlessly champion each client's cause ? from the siting of a nuclear power plant to defending an individual's constitutional rights. We continue to adhere to this vision by recruiting lawyers from diverse personal, educational, political, and geographic backgrounds that nevertheless fit into our unique culture. Our lawyers have included a former Florida Supreme Court Justice, an All-America football player, a widely-known cosmologist, a Harvard-educated rock band manager, several engineers, newspaper reporters, a sewer engineer, and even a boll weevil inspector. Yet all of our lawyers share a vision for how one ought to practice the law, and treat those with whom one practices. Each has thus been strengthened by the judgment of all, and many have decided to spend their entire legal careers with us. The vision of our founders ? our firm model ? has endured. Since our founding, the firm and its lawyers have garnered the highest accolades from Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell, Florida Trend magazine's Legal Elite, and U.S. News & World Report. Of course, the most important accolades come from our clients, many of whom choose to stay with us year after year and, in some instances, decade after decade.
