Our Story

In 2002, after practicing more than fifteen years in the area of intellectual property at Nims, Howes, Collison, Hansen & Lackert, and then at Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto, LLP, Rob started the Law Office of Robert L. Powley, which is now Powley & Gibson, P.C.

The firm has grown steadily over the last thirteen years with James M. Gibson joining the firm in early 2006 and Thomas Curtin joining in 2015. Jim has practiced in the IP field for twenty years, having started his career at Morgan & Finnegan, L.L.P. and later becoming a partner at Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto, LLP. Tom has been practicing in the IP field for 25 years starting at Nims, Howes, Collison, Hansen & Lackert where he became a partner, then of counsel at King & Spalding and partner at Lathrop & Gage before joining Powley & Gibson, P.C. Keith Sharkin joined the firm as Partner in March 2016. Keith has been practicing in the IP field for 30 years, having been a partner at Nims, Howes, Collison, Hansen & Lackert, then at King & Spalding, Dickstein Shapiro, and most recently at Reed Smith. Tom, Rob and Keith met at Nims, Howes, Collison, Hansen & Lackert in the early 1990s. In addition to its partners, Powley & Gibson currently has eight attorneys and six support staff.
