Job Title: Mid-Level Tax Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is actively seeking a mid-level tax associate to join its expanding Affordable Housing and Tax Credit Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a lateral associate with a strong background in tax law, specifically partnership tax, to work within a diverse and growing practice. The ideal candidate will have the chance to support for-profit and nonprofit developers involved in the development, acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, operation, and sale of affordable multifamily housing projects across the U.S., utilizing various federal, state, and local affordable housing programs.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on tax-related matters, focusing on partnership tax and federal income tax credits.
  • Provide legal support on affordable housing transactions, including structuring, acquisitions, and financing.
  • Draft and review complex legal documents related to tax credit transactions and affordable housing projects.
  • Work closely with developers and other stakeholders to navigate federal, state, and local affordable housing programs.
  • Assist clients with compliance matters and strategic planning regarding tax credits and other incentives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide integrated legal services for clients involved in multifamily housing development.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in partnership tax, with a focus on federal income tax credits.
  • Experience in affordable housing tax credit transactions is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving and client service.
  • Membership in good standing with any state bar.

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • An LLM in Taxation is preferred, but not required.
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related field.

Certifications:

  • An active member in good standing with any state bar.

Skills:

  • Expertise in partnership tax law, federal tax credits, and affordable housing programs.
  • Strong legal research and drafting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with a high degree of professionalism.
