A law firm in Miami, FL is seeking a Mid-Senior Biotech IP Patent Associate Attorney with a robust technical background in biological sciences. The successful candidate will have substantial experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and conducting due diligence investigations. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional client service within the biotechnology sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications related to biotechnology and life sciences innovations.
  • Conduct thorough patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses to support clients' strategic IP decisions.
  • Manage and advise clients on patent portfolio development, aligning IP strategy with their business objectives.
  • Perform due diligence investigations for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing transactions involving biotech patents.
  • Prepare and respond to office actions, and communicate with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, patent agents, and technical staff to devise and implement effective patent strategies.
  • Provide legal opinions on patent infringement, validity, and enforcement matters.
  • Assist with patent litigation, including opposition proceedings and appeals.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and biotechnology to offer informed and strategic advice to clients.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring proactive and high-quality service.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related scientific field.
  • Certification: Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience: 3-8 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and performing due diligence investigations, ideally in a law firm environment.

  • Strong technical expertise in biological sciences with the ability to understand and translate complex scientific concepts into effective legal strategies.
