A law firm seeks a skilled and experienced Asset Management Associate/Special Counsel to join its dynamic Asset Management team in Washington, D.C. This position is open to individuals with experience in private equity and hedge funds. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in asset management law and a keen understanding of the intricacies involved in private equity and hedge fund practices. This role offers opportunities to work on sophisticated transactions and advise high-profile clients.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to clients in the private equity and hedge fund sectors.
  • Draft and negotiate complex agreements related to fund formation, investments, and operational matters.
  • Represent clients in regulatory compliance issues and guide them through the evolving legal landscape for asset management.
  • Support fund sponsors and institutional investors with the legal aspects of their transactions.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on key client matters and provide mentoring to junior associates.
  • Assist with fund structuring, financing arrangements, and operational issues.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and market trends to proactively address client needs.

Requirements:

  • Between 3 to 9 years of experience in private equity and hedge fund law, with a focus on asset management.
  • Proven ability to handle complex transactions and regulatory issues.
  • Strong client relationship management skills and the ability to interact effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating investment agreements, partnership agreements, and other related documents.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment while managing individual caseloads.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the DC State Bar or eligibility to be admitted.

Skills:

  • Expertise in private equity, hedge funds, and asset management transactions.
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills, particularly related to fund formation and investment agreements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in legal research and keeping up with industry trends and regulations.
