Job Overview

A law firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Mid-level IP Litigation Attorney to join their team in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in intellectual property litigation, with 5+ years of experience handling all aspects of pre-trial through post-trial litigation. The firm values a team-oriented culture and requires a dedication to professionalism, attention to detail, business development, and client relations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute all stages of IP litigation:

    • Drafting pleadings, including complaints, answers, and counterclaims.
    • Handling discovery processes, including:
      • Serving and responding to discovery requests.
      • Manage discovery disputes and work closely with clients on discovery matters.
    • Preparing and arguing motions, including dispositive and non-dispositive motions.
    • Taking and defending depositions of fact witnesses, expert witnesses, and parties.
    • Overseeing document discovery, including the use of e-discovery tools and techniques.
    • Assisting with arbitration proceedings and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
    • Providing support during trial, including preparation of witnesses, exhibits, and trial briefs.
    • Handling post-trial motions and appeals as necessary.
  • Client Relationship Management:

    • Building and maintaining solid relationships with clients.
    • Providing strategic advice on IP litigation matters.
    • Collaborating with clients to develop litigation strategies and manage litigation risks.
  • Business Development:

    • Contributing to the firm’s business development efforts by participating in client pitches, networking events, and developing marketing materials.
    • Engaging in thought leadership by writing articles, speaking at conferences, and participating in professional organizations related to intellectual property law.
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Working closely with partners, associates, paralegals, and other staff members to ensure effective case management and strategy execution.
    • Mentoring junior associates and providing guidance on legal issues and litigation practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in intellectual property litigation, with at least 3 years of experience required.
  • Proven experience handling all aspects of IP litigation, from pre-trial to post-trial.
  • Strong technical background with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, electronics engineering, or a similar field.
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, with experience drafting pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation matters independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain client relationships.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Admission to the California Bar is strongly preferred.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is strongly preferred.
  • Eligibility to waive into the District of Columbia Bar if not already admitted.
