Minneapolis office of an AmLaw firm seeks patent associate attorney with experience. The candidate will draft and globally prosecute patent applications in electrical, computer science and business method fields. Will coordinate and correspondence with foreign law firms and associates to file foreign patent applications. Coordinate and correspondence with clients and investors for processing and legalization of formal documents for filing in foreign patent offices. Review country requirements and obtain Foreign Filing License where needed. Maintain client portfolio and provide client with estimates of costs for future filings and maintenance. Assist in the Firm's standardized procedures to enhance malpractice prevention. Conduct preliminary filings with the USPTO for new applications and renewals. Prepare and send notices to clients regarding upcoming deadlines. Correspond with foreign associates regarding filings, deadlines and billings. Anticipate attorney of client needs for specific projects. Delegate effectively and as appropriate with Paralegals or Legal Administrative Assistants. Design, recommend, and implement new processes and procedures to increase group efficiency. Special projects, as needed. Act as a liaison among various internal departments as well as with outside agencies. Meet billable hour requirement of 1650 per year for Patent Agent, 1750 per year for Associate. Performs other duties as assigned. Bachelors degree, higher degree, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering. Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or ability to qualify and domestic and international prosecution experience is preferred. Law firm or in-house intellectual property experience is preferred.

The candidate should have excellent academic credentials and excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills are required. Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel is needed. Must have ability to work well under pressure, multi-task efficiently and be an independent thinker. Should have strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Must be highly professional with a strong customer service orientation, commitment to meeting deadlines, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Strong professional, independent thinking skills with strength in problem solving and the ability to offer constructive opinions and creative solutions are essential. Must be a team player who motivates and educates other team members. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.
