Job Overview:

A prestigious law firm is seeking a skilled Patent Agent to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group, focusing on either the Electrical Engineering & Software Team or the Mechanical Team. This opportunity is open for candidates with 3 to 6 years of patent prosecution experience, a background in engineering or related technical fields, and proficiency in handling complex patent matters. Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the fields of electrical engineering, software, or mechanical engineering.
  • Assist with patent litigation, including drafting pleadings, motions, and other litigation-related documents.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and provide strategic advice on IP portfolios.
  • Engage in legal research and analysis to support patent prosecution and litigation efforts.
  • Represent clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on patent-related matters.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their technologies and provide legal guidance on intellectual property protection.
  • Assist with licensing negotiations and other patent-related transactions.

Requirements:

  • 3 to 6 years of patent prosecution experience, including patent application drafting.
  • A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Registered with the USPTO (required).
  • Experience with patent litigation is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration (required).

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution and application drafting.
  • Strong knowledge of patent litigation processes and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and understand complex technical concepts.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
