Boston office of a BCG Attorney Search Top Ranked Law Firm seeks associate/of counsel attorney with 5 years of experience responding to questions from multinational companies with operations in Japan as to Japanese employment law, strategies, and compliance matters. The candidate will provide effective legal consultation, services and advice to clients on labor and employment issues. Will represent clients in state and federal court litigation, proceedings before federal, state and local agencies, in collective bargaining and other forums in which labor and employment issues are asserted. Prepare all documents necessary for the effective representation of clients (including memoranda, legal briefs, opinion letters, handbooks and/or general correspondence). Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, decision-makers, consultants and other counsel. Be regularly notified of the status of matters being handled on their behalf. Remain focused on issues being addressed, concentrate for extended periods of time and pay close attention to detail. Work under strenuous and stressful conditions and be able to effectively respond to client needs on short notice when required. Travel to locations away from the office, occasionally for extended periods of time, to perform services on behalf of clients or the firm. Research and analyze legal issues and to formulate creative responses to issues presented. Give presentations on labor and employment issues to clients, prospective clients, human resource professionals and others. Proficiently utilize firm provided equipment and processes, including telephones, computer systems, dictation devices and other mechanisms. Satisfy all firm administrative requirements, including complying with all firm policies and timely preparation of time records, billing records and expense reports. Interact courteously and professionally with coworkers, paralegals, managers and staff, and keep office management and supervising shareholders apprised of the own work or out of the office schedule as requested. Work collaboratively with other attorneys, paralegals, managers and staff and to generally maintain a regular presence in the office in order to work collaboratively and to effectively and efficiently address unanticipated or unexpected developments on the matters on which they are working. Answers and responds to questions from littler multinational companies with operations in Japan as to Japanese employment law, strategies, and compliance matters. Act as the firms go-to employees for purposes of general international employment advice, such as cross-border transfers, global policies (leave, compensation, harassment, and discrimination), trainings of globally mobile staff, etc. Provides littler clients access to experience with APAC in the same time zone as the clients. Must have admission to the Bar. Must be Japan-licensed attorney. Should have 1 year of experience working with international employment such as cross-border transfers, global policies (leave, compensation, harassment, discrimination), trainings of globally mobile staff. Should have 1 year of experience working with Japanese companies who have US operations, including addressing Japanese expatriate issues, conflicts of law, cultural clashes in the work space, and related matters. Must have 1 year of experience working with APAC employment issues to advise on the same in the same time zone as the US clients; this avoids the inconvenience associated with requiring the US-based clients to wait for late hours to speak with qualified counsel in the APAC time zone.
The candidate should have a Juris doctor or foreign equivalent.
