Job Title: Senior Real Estate Associate Attorney / Special Counsel (Lender-Side Focus)

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in New York City is seeking an experienced Senior Real Estate Associate Attorney or Special Counsel to join their growing Real Estate Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in representing lenders in commercial real estate transactions, with a particular focus on construction loans. This position offers the opportunity to focus predominantly on lender-side matters, with at least 60% of the role dedicated to these cases.

Duties:

  • Represent lenders in various commercial real estate transactions, including construction loans, financing, and development deals.
  • Provide expert legal advice on loan structures, credit facilities, and related matters.
  • Draft and negotiate complex real estate loan documentation and agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Manage client relationships, offering strategic legal counsel to support business goals.
  • Oversee junior associates and provide mentorship on legal and professional development.
  • Stay up-to-date on trends and changes in real estate law and regulations to offer informed advice to clients.

Requirements:

  • At least 6 years of experience in a law firm environment with a focus on real estate finance, particularly representing lenders.
  • Proven experience with commercial real estate transactions and construction loan agreements.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to engage with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in the state of New York (or willingness to apply).

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of commercial real estate law, with a focus on lender-side transactions.
  • Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
