Kansas City office of a BCG Attorney Search Top Ranked Law Firm seeks a senior legal counsel with 8+ years of practice in a large law firm, with experience relating to general counsel role. The candidate will report to the Firm Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Will manage actual and potential litigation and enforcement matters, including internal reviews and investigations related to such matters. Advise on any contract negotiations and documentation. Manage dispute resolution. Interpret existing laws, rules and regulations, and advise on changes thereto. Advise on advocacy in connection with contemplated and proposed laws, rules and regulations. Provide legal advice to the board of directors, the firm and firm operations, as requested. Structure the office of the General Counsel. Chair the firm's risk management committee. Set the agenda and priorities (with Chief Executive Officer and the Board). Structure the committee and staff resources in order to effectively pursue priorities. Present monthly board updates on risk and budget issues. Create a known and sustainable structure for insurance procurement and claims administration. Support the General Counsel in managing, responding, interacting with third parties, selection of outside counsel, managing budgets and strategy, briefing and making recommendations to the Chairman on claims in the professional liability space. Guide firm off boarding benefit decisions with the chief people and communications officer and human resources team. Further oversee handling of human resource and personnel files and provide recommendations. Oversee interest on lawyers' trust accounts, in collaboration with the firm's financial department. Lead and oversee the alignment of employee and shareholder policies to be internally consistent, clear and accessible. Initiate and lead a periodic review process. Provide input and oversight on Firm document management and retention, in collaboration with the firm's information technology and human resource departments. On periodic basis, work with firm management on reviewing mergers, groups, lateral offer letters, tail insurance, and due diligence. Monitor and serve as a mediator, if needed, to address conflict issues internally and occasionally with lateral shareholder candidates, including assessing and providing input on ethical issues. Oversee new business intake team, with role of detailing and resolving internal conflicts regarding client matters. Collaborate with chief executive officer and information technology leadership to approve firm commercial contracting and procurement processes. Counsel and represent individual firm lawyers and the firm in disciplinary investigations and malpractice matters. Advise firm regarding legal issues relating to investigations and inquiries. Work closely with firm leadership on personnel and legal matters. Draft correspondence and submissions, and lead staff members. Conduct internal reviews and investigations. Participate in periodic ethics training.

The candidate must have a J.D. degree. Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills are required. Strong oral and written communication skills are needed. Must have in-depth experience with legal and personnel issues, with sensitivity to confidentiality. Proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels in a law firm is needed.
