Job Title: Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A Newark-based law firm with a strong regional presence seeks a detail-oriented and driven Associate Attorney with active admission to the New Jersey bar. The role focuses on family and criminal law, including custody matters, domestic violence, divorce, support issues, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). The position offers hands-on litigation experience and opportunities to work closely with clients in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Duties:

  • Draft legal documents such as motions, pleadings, and briefs

  • Represent clients in court appearances, both virtual and in-person (access to a vehicle is necessary)

  • Manage litigation from initial filing through resolution

  • Review new matters and develop efficient legal strategies

  • Collaborate with colleagues and support staff on case development

  • Maintain direct communication with clients, many of whom are Spanish-speaking

  • Track case status and manage court calendars and appointments

  • Analyze legal documents and assess for accuracy and compliance

  • Utilize Microsoft Office, Teams, and Zoom for casework and communication

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of New Jersey

  • 1-3 years of relevant legal experience preferred (including clerkships or internships in public service legal roles)

  • Ability to handle a high caseload while maintaining attention to detail

  • Strong written and verbal advocacy skills

  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Reliable and team-oriented with a commitment to client service

  • Access to reliable transportation for in-person court appearances

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active admission to the New Jersey Bar (required)

  • Admission to New York, Connecticut, Federal District Courts, or Bankruptcy Court is a plus

Skills:

  • Legal research and drafting

  • Oral advocacy and courtroom presence

  • Client interaction and communication

  • Bilingual in Spanish (strongly preferred)
